Al Pacino was born Alfredo James Pacino on April 25, 1940, in Manhattan, New York City. He is the only child of Italian-American parents, Rose and Salvatore Pacino, who divorced when he was two years old.

Al Pacino and his mother moved to the South Bronx to live with his grandparents. He developed an interest in acting at a young age and attended the High School of Performing Arts, although he dropped out at age 17.

His early career was marked by struggles and poverty. He studied acting at the HB Studio and later at the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg.

His breakthrough came with the role of Michael Corleone in "The Godfather" (1972), which earned him his first Academy Award nomination. He reprised this role in "The Godfather Part II" (1974) and "The Godfather Part III" (1990). Pacino's portrayal of Tony Montana in "Scarface" (1983) became iconic.

Throughout his career, Al Pacino has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in "Scent of a Woman" (1992).
