Alexa Vega, born Alexa Ellesse Vega on August 27, 1988, in Miami, Florida, is an American actress and singer. She is best known for her role as Carmen Cortez in the "Spy Kids" film series. Her father, Baruch Vega, is a Colombian fashion photographer, and her mother, Gina Rue, is a former model.

Alexa Vega has six siblings, including actress Makenzie Vega. The family moved to California when Alexa was four years old, and she was homeschooled during her teenage years.

She began her acting career at the age of five, appearing on the CBS television series "Evening Shade". She gained widespread recognition in 2001 for her role as Carmen Cortez in "Spy Kids," a role she reprised in the sequels "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams" and "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over". She also performed her own stunts in these films. In 2011, she returned to the role in "Spy Kids: All the Time in the World".

Alexa Vega has appeared in numerous television shows, including "ER," "Ghost Whisperer," and "The Bernie Mac Show." She starred as Ruby Gallagher in the ABC Family series "Ruby & the Rockits" from 2009 to 2010. Alexa also ventured into Broadway, playing Penny Pingleton in the musical "Hairspray" in 2007.

Her career continued to evolve with roles in films such as "Repo! The Genetic Opera," "Broken Hill," and "From Prada to Nada." She also participated in the 21st season of "Dancing with the Stars." In 2014, she married Carlos PenaVega, and the couple has three children together.
