Alicia Augello Cook, known professionally as Alicia Keys, was born on January 25, 1981, in New York City. She is the daughter of Craig Cook, a flight attendant, and Terri Augello, a paralegal and part-time actress.

Raised by her mother in the Hell’s Kitchen area of Manhattan, Alicia showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of seven.

She attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan, where she graduated as valedictorian at the age of 16. Alicia briefly attended Columbia University before deciding to pursue a career in music.

Her music career took off with her debut album, Songs in A Minor, released in 2001. The album was a commercial success, selling over 12 million copies worldwide and earning her five Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for her hit single Fallin'.

Her second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, released in 2003, was also a success, selling eight million copies worldwide and winning four Grammy Awards.

Alicia Keys continued to release successful albums, including As I Am, The Element of Freedom, and Girl on Fire. Some of her most notable songs include No One, If I Ain't Got You, and Empire State of Mind, a collaboration with Jay-Z.

Alicia Keys has been married to music producer Swizz Beatz since 2010, and they have two children together.
