Amy Adams

Amy Lou Adams was born on August 20, 1974, in Aviano, Italy, to American parents Kathryn and Richard Adams, while her father was serving in the U.S. Army. She grew up in Castle Rock, Colorado, as one of seven children, and her family moved frequently due to her father's military service.

Her early life was filled with fond memories of attending her father's performances in nightclubs and restaurants. She trained as a ballerina but found musical theatre a better fit, and from 1994 to 1998, she worked in dinner theatre.

Her career began with a supporting role in the dark comedy "Drop Dead Gorgeous" (1999), and she made guest appearances in television before landing her first major role in Steven Spielberg's biopic "Catch Me If You Can" (2002). Although she faced a year of unemployment after the film, her breakthrough came with the independent comedy-drama "Junebug" (2005), for which she received her first Academy Award nomination.

Her career continued to flourish with roles in films like the musical fantasy "Enchanted" (2007), the drama "Doubt" (2008), and the sports film "The Fighter" (2010). She won two consecutive Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress for her performances in the crime film "American Hustle" (2013) and the biopic "Big Eyes" (2014).

She also portrayed Lois Lane in the DC Extended Universe superhero films from 2013 to 2017 and received acclaim for her roles in the science fiction film "Arrival" (2016) and the HBO miniseries "Sharp Objects" (2018). Her stage roles include the Public Theater's revival of "Into the Woods" in 2012 and the West End theatre revival of "The Glass Menagerie" in 2022.
