Amy Klobuchar, born on May 25, 1960, in Plymouth, Minnesota, is a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently serving as the senior United States senator from Minnesota, a position she has held since 2007.

She is a member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), which is the state's affiliate of the Democratic Party. She is known for her folksy, Midwestern demeanor and her ability to win in rural Minnesota.

Before her tenure in the Senate, she served as the county attorney of Hennepin County, Minnesota, from 1999 to 2007. In this role, she was responsible for all criminal prosecution in the state's most populous county. She was elected to the Senate in 2006, succeeding Mark Dayton, and became Minnesota's first elected female United States senator.

She has been re-elected multiple times, most recently in 2024, defeating Republican nominee Royce White.

In September 2021, she disclosed that she had received a Stage 1A breast cancer diagnosis in February 2021, but after a successful lumpectomy and a course of radiation therapy, her doctors concluded that she was cancer-free in August 2021.

Her senior thesis at Yale, "Uncovering the Dome," about the politics behind the building of the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, was later published as a book in 1986.
