Amy Madigan

Amy Madigan was born on September 11, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, to John J. Madigan, a journalist, and Dolores Madigan, an administrative assistant and amateur actress. She grew up in a third-generation Irish-American Catholic family and attended St. Philip Neri Grammar School and Aquinas High School in Chicago, where she performed in school plays.

Her early interest in the arts was nurtured by her mother's involvement in community theater. She later studied piano at the Chicago Conservatory of Music and earned a BA in philosophy from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In the late 1970s, she pursued a career in music, touring the United States as a solo singer and pianist. She was also the lead singer of the band Big Daddy. However, her career took a turn when she decided to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles.
