Anne Seymour

American Film Actress

Anne Seymour, born Anne Seymour Eckert on September 11, 1909, in Manhattan, New York City, was an American film and television character actress. She was the daughter of William Stanley Eckert, a copper expert, and May Davenport Seymour, an actress and museum curator.

Anne Seymour was the seventh generation of a theatrical family that could be traced back to Ireland in the 18th century. Her great-uncle was the popular character actor Harry Davenport, and her two older brothers were writer James Seymour and actor John Seymour.

Anne Seymour began her career performing with The Jitney Players and made her New York debut in "Mr. Moneypenny" in 1928. She appeared in several Broadway shows, including "At the Bottom" (1930) and "A School for Scandal" (1931).

She transitioned to radio drama in 1932, where her warm style and vocal timbre made her perfect for playing noble, self-sacrificing heroines. She portrayed "Mary Marlin" for 11 popular seasons, which became her most identifiable role.
