Barbara Britton, born Barbara Maurine Brantingham on September 26, 1919, in Long Beach, California, was an American film and television actress celebrated notably for her roles in Western films and television during the 1940s and 1950s.

She began acting early in stage productions and studied speech at Long Beach City College, initially planning to become a speech and drama teacher before pursuing an acting career. Her entry into the film industry came in 1941 after being spotted during the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, leading to a contract with Paramount Pictures.

She made her film debut the same year in "Secret of the Wastelands" and "Louisiana Purchase," gradually earning prominent roles in pictures such as "Reap the Wild Wind" (1942) and the war drama "So Proudly We Hail!" (1943).

Barbara Britton became particularly known for her performances in Westerns, starring alongside Randolph Scott in films like "Captain Kidd" (1945), "Gunfighters" (1947), and "Albuquerque" (1948), as well as featuring in "The Virginian" (1946) opposite Joel McCrea.
