Her early career included roles in films like Mickey (1948) and Skirts Ahoy! (1952). Her television career took off when she appeared in the TV comedy series I Married Joan (1952-1955), where she played the younger sister of her real-life mother.

Her personal life was marked by three marriages. She first married Pasadena fireman Lee Bamber in 1952, but the couple divorced a year later. In 1954, she married Alan Grossman, with whom she had two sons, Guy Steven and Laurance S.
