Bridgit Claire Mendler (born December 18, 1992) is an American entrepreneur, academic, and former actress and singer who rose to fame through Disney Channel productions before transitioning into space technology and legal scholarship.

Born in Washington, D.C., she moved with her family to the San Francisco Bay Area as a child, where she began acting in local productions and voice roles, making her film debut in the animated feature “The Legend of Buddha” (2004). As a teenager she appeared in independent and family films such as “Alice Upside Down” (2007), “The Clique” (2008), and “Labor Pains” (2009), building a résumé that led to work with major studios.​

Bridgit Mendler gained widespread recognition after joining Disney Channel in 2009, first in a recurring role as Juliet van Heusen on “Wizards of Waverly Place,” and then as the lead character Teddy Duncan on the sitcom “Good Luck Charlie” (2010–2014).

She further expanded her Disney profile by starring as Olivia White in the Disney Channel Original Movie “Lemonade Mouth” (2011), also contributing prominently to its soundtrack, and by appearing in the theatrical film “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” (2009). After her Disney tenure, she took on more mature television roles, including parts in the NBC sitcom “Undateable” (2015–2016), the drama series “Nashville” (2017), and the Netflix holiday comedy “Merry Happy Whatever” (2019).​

Alongside acting, she pursued a music career, beginning with her songs for the “Lemonade Mouth” soundtrack in 2011 and signing with Hollywood Records that same year. Her debut studio album, “Hello My Name Is…” (2012), reached number 30 on the US Billboard 200 and charted in several other countries, producing the hit single “Ready or Not” and the follow-up “Hurricane.”

She later released the EP “Nemesis” (2016), explored a more mature pop and R&B sound, and embarked on concert tours including her 2012–2014 outings in support of her early releases.​

Bridgit Mendler has been active in philanthropy, serving from 2010 to 2012 as an ambassador for the nonprofit First Book, which promotes literacy, and working with the Give with Target campaign to raise funds for American schools.

Parallel to her entertainment work, she pursued higher education, earning an undergraduate degree in anthropology from the University of Southern California before beginning graduate studies focused on technology, communication, and social impact. In 2017 she joined the MIT Media Lab as a student and researcher, later completing a Master of Science degree at MIT in 2020 and registering as a PhD candidate with the MIT Center for Constructive Communications and Social Machines, while also studying law at Harvard Law School.​

After gaining experience at the Federal Communications Commission’s Space Bureau, Bridgit Mendler co-founded the satellite data and ground infrastructure startup Northwood Space, becoming its CEO in 2024.

Northwood Space, based in California, focuses on mass-producing satellite ground stations to relieve data transmission bottlenecks in the space industry and has attracted substantial venture capital funding, raising more than 30 million dollars by 2025 from prominent investors.

In the same period, she completed her Juris Doctor degree at Harvard Law School, cementing a shift in her public profile from entertainer to technology entrepreneur and legal scholar, while remaining a notable figure for audiences who grew up with her Disney Channel work.​
