She is the youngest of four children born to Sarah Murdoch, a realtor, and Ralph Ricci, a lawyer and therapist. Her heritage includes Italian, Irish, and Scots-Irish descent. She grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, and attended the Professional Children's School in New York City.

Christina Ricci made her film debut at the age of nine in "Mermaids" (1990), where she starred alongside Cher and Winona Ryder. Her breakout role came as Wednesday Addams in "The Addams Family" (1991) and its sequel "Addams Family Values" (1993), which established her as a young actress with a penchant for dark, quirky characters.
