Chuck D, born Carlton Douglas Ridenhour on August 1, 1960, in Long Island, New York, is an influential American rapper, author, and music producer. He is best known as the leader and frontman of the hip hop group Public Enemy, which he co-founded in 1985 with Flavor Flav.

His work with Public Enemy helped create politically and socially conscious hip hop music in the mid-1980s. His powerful and resonant voice, combined with his socially charged lyrics, has made him a prominent figure in the music industry.

His career began when he met William Drayton, known as Flavor Flav, at Adelphi University, where he studied graphic design. Together, they formed Public Enemy and released their debut album, "Yo!
