Her family moved frequently due to her father's job as a civilian consultant to the U.S. military, and they eventually settled in Texas. She attended a German public school, an American public school, and was also homeschooled.

Debby Ryan gained prominence through her roles in Disney Channel productions. She starred as Bailey Pickett in "The Suite Life on Deck" from 2008 to 2011, and as Jessie Prescott in "Jessie" from 2011 to 2015.
