Elaine Stewart

Elaine Stewart, born Elsy Henrietta Maria Steinberg on May 31, 1930, in Montclair, New Jersey, was an American actress and model. She was the daughter of German immigrant parents, Maria Hedwig Hänssler and Ulrich Ernst Steinberg, a police sergeant.

Elaine Stewart was one of five children in her family. As a teenager, she signed a contract with the Conover modeling agency and changed her name to Elaine Stewart. Her striking beauty and charm quickly caught the attention of Hollywood executives.

Elaine Stewart made her film debut in 1952 with a small role in the Dean Martin-Jerry Lewis comedy "Sailor Beware," directed by Hal Wallis.

She went on to star in several films, including "The Bad and the Beautiful" (1952), where she played Lila, a starlet who has a romantic fling with a producer played by Kirk Douglas. She also appeared in "Take the High Ground!" (1953) as Julie, the love interest of Sgt. Ryan, played by Richard Widmark, and co-starred with Mickey Rooney in the comedy "A Slight Case of Larceny" (1953).

In addition to her film career, she was a popular pin-up model and appeared in magazines such as Playboy and Photoplay. She also had a small but key role as Anne Boleyn in the 1953 film "Young Bess" and co-starred with Jeff Chandler in the film noir "The Tattered Dress" (1957).

Her television career included guest appearances in series such as "Bat Masterson" and "Burke's Law," and she was a co-hostess on the game shows "Gambit" and "High Rollers" in the 1970s.

Her personal life included two marriages. In 1961, she married actor Bill Carter, and they divorced in 1964. Later that year, she married television producer Merrill Heatter, with whom she had two children, Stewart and Gabrielle.

Elaine Stewart passed away on June 27, 2011, at the age of 81 in Beverly Hills, California.
