Her early career saw her in supporting roles in films such as "Busses Roar" (1942) and "The Mysterious Doctor" (1943). She received her first prominent role in "Between Two Worlds" (1944), which showcased her acting prowess. Her breakthrough came when she starred in "Caged" (1950), earning her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. This performance also won her the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival.
