She is the daughter of Palestinian-American real estate developer Mohamed Hadid and Dutch-American former model Yolanda Hadid. She has two younger siblings, Bella and Anwar, who are also models. She also has two older paternal half-sisters, Marielle and Alana. She was raised on a ranch in Santa Barbara before moving to Beverly Hills.

Her modeling career began when she was just two years old after being discovered by Paul Marciano of Guess. She appeared in Baby Guess ads but took a break to focus on school. She returned to modeling in 2011 and became the face of a Guess campaign in 2012.
