Gina Torres is an American actress born on April 25, 1969, in New York City. She is best known for her roles as Zoe Washburne in the science fiction series "Firefly" and Jessica Pearson in the legal drama series "Suits."

Gina Torres has also appeared in numerous other TV shows and films, including "The Matrix Reloaded," "The Vampire Diaries," and "Westworld." She currently stars in the series "9-1-1: Lone Star."

She was raised in the Bronx by her Cuban immigrant parents, Orlando and Rebeca Torres. She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she trained in opera and jazz. Although she was accepted to several colleges, financial constraints prevented her from enrolling, leading her to pursue a career in acting instead.

In 2001, she won an ALMA Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Syndicated Drama Series for her role in "Cleopatra 2525." She has also been nominated for various other awards throughout her career.

Gina Torres was married to actor Laurence Fishburne from 2002 to 2018, and they have a daughter together.
