Her mother, Marion Grace Zabriskie, had distant Polish and Dutch ancestry, and her father, Roger Thomas "Tom" Caplinger, owned the famous French Quarter gay bar Cafe Lafitte in Exile.
Her family was visited by notable personalities such as Tennessee Williams, Gore Vidal, and Truman Capote during her childhood. She has two daughters, one of whom, Marion Lane, is a painter who often collaborates with her mother on fine art projects.
Grace Zabriskie began her career in Hollywood with her major film debut in "Norma Rae" (1979) and went on to appear in over 80 movies.
