In 1939, she moved to Hollywood to pursue her dream of becoming a film star. Initially, she appeared in small, uncredited roles, but her talent caught the eye of RKO Studios, which signed her in 1942.
Her breakthrough came with her role as Alice Moore in the 1942 horror film "Cat People," a role she reprised in the sequel "The Curse of the Cat People" in 1944. These films established her as a leading lady in the horror genre.
