Jayne Mansfield, born Vera Jayne Palmer on April 19, 1933, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, was an iconic American actress and Playboy Playmate. She became a prominent sex symbol of the 1950s and early 1960s, known for her numerous publicity stunts and open personal life.
Her career began to take off after she played the role of fictional actress Rita Marlowe in the Broadway production "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?" which she reprised in the film adaptation in 1957.
Her other notable film roles include "The Girl Can't Help It" (1956), "The Wayward Bus" (1957), "Too Hot to Handle" (1960), and "Promises! Promises!" (1963), where she became one of the first major American actresses to perform in a nude scene in a post-silent era film.

After their divorce in 1958, she married bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay, and they had three children together, including actress Mariska Hargitay. Her third marriage was to director Matt Cimber in 1964, which ended in divorce two years later.
She was also romantically linked with several high-profile men, including Robert and John F. Kennedy, her attorney Samuel S. Brody, and Las Vegas entertainer Nelson Sardelli.
Despite her short-lived career, she achieved several box-office successes and won a Theatre World Award for Promising Personality in 1956 and a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year – Actress in 1957.
