Born in Phoenix, Arizona, to a family of doctors, she began her career in local theater, performing at venues like The Old Globe in San Diego, Idyllwild Arts, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, before attending UCLA's School of Theater, Film, and Television, where she graduated in three years after creating and starring in her one-woman show Not a Pretty Girl.

Fluent in French and German from studies in Paris and Heidelberg, Jenny Mollen transitioned to screen acting with early television appearances in series such as 18 Wheels of Justice and the horror film Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave.​
