Jerry Seinfeld, born Jerome Allen Seinfeld on April 29, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer. He grew up in a Jewish family with his father, Kalmen Seinfeld, a sign painter of Hungarian descent, and his mother, Betty Hosni, of Syrian Jewish descent.

Jerry Seinfeld has an older sister named Carolyn. He attended Queens College, City University of New York, where he developed an interest in stand-up comedy.

His career took off after his first successful appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1981. He gained widespread fame for playing a semi-fictionalized version of himself in the NBC sitcom Seinfeld, which he co-created and wrote with Larry David.
