Jo Ann Pflug was raised in Winter Park, Florida, where her father served as mayor in 1958. She graduated from Winter Park High School and pursued higher education at Rollins College before transferring to the University of Miami, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting with a minor in American History.

While at the University of Miami, she hosted a weekly radio show called "The Magic Carpet" and later became the first woman to host a live weekly TV talk show in Los Angeles on KHJ-TV, channel 9. Her first screen credit was in "Cyborg 2087" (1966), and she gained significant recognition as U.S. Army nurse Lt. Maria "Dish" Schneider in the 1970 film "M*A*S*H."

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, she appeared in various films and TV series, including "Catlow" (1971), "The Night Strangler" (1973), and "The Fall Guy" (1981-1982). She was married to game and talk show host Chuck Woolery from 1972 until 1980, and they had a daughter, Melissa. She later married Charles Stuck Young in 1988.

She has authored a book titled "Buffalo Gal: A Memoir" and tours with her own motivational seminars.
