Jose Solorio was born on September 28, 1970, in Michoacan, Mexico, and is a prominent American politician who served as a California State Assemblyman representing the 69th District from 2006 to 2012.

As the son of migrant farm workers, he grew up in Santa Ana, California, and overcame significant challenges to earn a Bachelor of Arts in social ecology from the University of California, Irvine, and a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University.

His political career began at the local level, where he was a member of the Santa Ana City Council from 2000 to 2006, then returning to serve again from 2016 to 2020 after his state legislature tenure.

During his time in the State Assembly, he focused on education reform, public safety, infrastructure improvements, and youth violence prevention, authoring significant legislation in these areas.

His efforts led to the creation of California’s first gang czar, reforms in state prisons, and laws aimed at improving academic achievement and student resources. In addition to public office, he was appointed to the Orange County Water District Board of Directors and held various roles on educational and civic boards, including the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Ana and UC Irvine’s Department of Planning, Policy, and Design.

After his time in the Assembly, he continued his public service as a trustee on the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board and was actively involved in keeping higher education affordable and accessible, promoting job creation, and modernizing college facilities.

Jose Solorio ran for mayor of Santa Ana in 2022 but was not elected. In recent years, he has served as a government affairs officer for the Moulton Niguel Water District and has been a California Water Commissioner since 2021.

His public service reflects his commitment to supporting the community, especially those with backgrounds similar to his own, advocating for policies that enhance education, water management, and public safety.

Jose Solorio is married to Roselinn May Lee and has two sons, Michael Andrew and Diego Tian.
