Kate Vernon, born Katherine Elizabeth Vernon on April 21, 1961, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is a Canadian-American actress known for her roles in television and film. She is the daughter of actor John Vernon and Nancy West, and her brother Chris Vernon is also an actor, while her sister Nan Vernon is a singer. She moved to Los Angeles with her family at the age of seven, where she began her acting career.

Her career took off in the 1980s with her role as Lorraine Prescott on the CBS primetime soap opera "Falcon Crest" (1984-1985). She also appeared in the comedy film "Pretty in Pink" (1986) as the popular and stuck-up Benny Hanson.

Her career continued to flourish with roles in various TV series, including "Who's the Boss?" (1990), "L.A. Law" (1994), and "Star Trek: Voyager" (1998).

One of her most notable roles came in the 2004 Syfy series "Battlestar Galactica," where she played the recurring character Ellen Tigh. She also appeared in the TV series "The Morning Show" (2019) and "Condor" (2018-2020).
