Katey Sagal

American Actress and Singer

Catherine Louise Sagal, known professionally as Katey Sagal, was born on January 19, 1954, in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in a show business family; her mother, Sara Zwilling, was a singer and television writer, while her father, Boris Sagal, was a Ukrainian-Jewish immigrant and television director.

Her early life was marked by tragedy when her mother passed away from heart disease in 1975, and her father died in a helicopter accident on the set of the miniseries "World War III" in 1981.

Katey Sagal began her career in show business as a singer and songwriter. In 1973, she worked as a backing vocalist for various singers, including Bob Dylan, Etta James, and Tanya Tucker.

Her breakout role came in 1987 when she was cast as the iconic Peggy Bundy on the Fox sitcom "Married... with Children." Her portrayal of the brazen, undomesticated housewife earned her three Golden Globe nominations and two American Comedy Awards.

After the show ended in 1997, she continued to diversify her roles, starring in sitcoms like "8 Simple Rules" and voicing the character Leela on the animated series "Futurama."

In 2008, Katey Sagal took on the role of Gemma Teller Morrow, the matriarch of a Hell's Angels-esque California biker gang, on the FX series "Sons of Anarchy." Her performance in this role earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Drama in 2011.

She has been married three times: first to musician Freddie Beckmeier, then to drummer Jack White, and finally to writer-producer Kurt Sutter in 2004. Katey and Kurt have a daughter, Esmé Louise, born in 2007 via surrogate.

Katey Sagal also has two children from her marriage to Jack White, Sarah Grace and Jackson James.

She released her debut album "Well" in 1994 and followed it up with "Room" in 2004, which included both covers and original songs.
