She is the daughter of actor Sam Waterston and former model Lynn Louisa Woodruff, and she holds dual citizenship in the United States and the United Kingdom. She was raised in Connecticut and attended the Loomis Chaffee School, graduating in 1998. She later pursued her passion for acting at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting.
