Kelly Hu, born Kelly Ann Hu on February 13, 1968, in Honolulu, Hawaii, is an American actress and model of Chinese, English, and Hawaiian descent. She began her career in show business after winning the Miss Teen USA title in 1985, becoming the first Asian-American to hold the title.
Her early life was marked by her parents' divorce, and she was raised by her mother and stepfather. She attended Maʻemaʻe Elementary School and Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu.
Her modeling career took off in Japan and Italy, where she became well-known for her appearances in television advertisements. She later moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and made her television debut in 1987 with a guest-starring role on the sitcom "Growing Pains."
