Leelee Sobieski, born Liliane Rudabet Gloria Elsveta Sobieski on June 10, 1983, in New York City, is an American artist and retired actress. She gained prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s with notable roles in films such as "Deep Impact" (1998), "Never Been Kissed" (1999), and "Joan of Arc" (1999).

After a successful acting career, she retired from the industry in 2012 to focus on her family and passion for art.

Leelee Sobieski was born to Elizabeth Sobieski, a film producer and screenwriter, and Jean Sobieski, a French-born painter and former actor.

Her diverse heritage includes Polish, Swiss, and Ashkenazi Jewish roots. Growing up in a creative environment, she was naturally inclined toward the arts. She attended the Trevor Day School in New York City, where her talent was discovered by a casting agent during a school cafeteria visit.

Her acting debut came in 1994 with the TV movie "Reunion". Her breakthrough role was in the 1998 disaster film "Deep Impact," where she portrayed Sarah Hotchner. The same year, she appeared in "A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries," earning critical acclaim. In 1999, Sobieski starred as Joan of Arc in the television miniseries, a performance that garnered both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

She also played a supporting role in Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999), further establishing her versatility as an actress.

Throughout her career, she delivered memorable performances in films like "Here on Earth" (2000), "Joy Ride" (2001), and "The Glass House" (2001). Her portrayal of Tosia Altman in the 2001 miniseries "Uprising" earned her a second Golden Globe nomination.
