Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio, born on November 11, 1974, in Los Angeles, California, is an American actor and film producer. Known for his work in biographical and period films, he has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and three Golden Globe Awards.

He is the only child of Irmelin DiCaprio (née Indenbirken), a legal secretary, and George DiCaprio, a former comic book artist. His father is of Italian and German descent, and his mother, who is German-born, is of German, Ukrainian, and Russian ancestry.

Leonardo DiCaprio began his career in the late 1980s by appearing in television commercials. In the early 1990s, he had recurring roles in various television shows, such as the sitcoms Parenthood and Growing Pains. His first major film part was as author Tobias Wolff in This Boy's Life (1993).
