Luis Alfonso Rodríguez López-Cepero, known by his stage name Luis Fonsi, was born on April 15, 1978, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is the oldest child of Alfonso Rodríguez and Delia López-Cepero and has two younger siblings, Jean Rodríguez, who is also a singer, and Tatiana Rodríguez.

Growing up, Luis Fonsi idolized the stars of the popular group Menudo and the San Juan Children's Choir. At the age of 10, his family moved from Puerto Rico to Orlando, Florida, where he attended Westridge Middle School and Dr. Phillips High School.

During his high school years, he participated in an a cappella group called "The Big Guys," which included Joey Fatone, who later joined *NSYNC. In 1995, Fonsi enrolled at Florida State University School of Music on a full scholarship but eventually dropped out to pursue a career in music.

His career began in 1997 when he recorded his debut album, Comenzaré, which was released in 1998. The album peaked at number 11 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart and included singles like "Si Tú Quisieras," "Perdóname," "Dime Como," and "Me Iré." Comenzaré became a hit in Puerto Rico and across Latin America, establishing Fonsi's presence in the music industry.

Over the years, he released several other albums, but it was his 2017 hit "Despacito" that catapulted him to worldwide fame. The song, featuring Daddy Yankee, topped the charts in around 50 countries and became the most-watched YouTube video of all time until November 2020, with over 8 billion views.

"Despacito" won four Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Latin Music Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, and three Grammy Awards nominations. Fonsi has also collaborated with various artists, including Demi Lovato on the song "Échame la Culpa," which won a Latin American Music Award.
