Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, better known by his stage name Lupe Fiasco, is an American rapper and record producer born on February 16, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois. Raised in a family with African and Native American heritage, he developed an interest in hip hop after initially disliking the genre for its use of vulgarity and misogyny.

He began recording songs in his father's basement and soon joined a group called Da Pak, which disbanded shortly after its inception. His career took off when he met rapper Jay-Z, who helped him sign a record deal with Atlantic Records.

In September 2006, he released his debut album, "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor," which received critical acclaim and three Grammy nominations. The album featured hit singles like "Kick, Push" and "Daydreamin'," showcasing his socially conscious lyrics and storytelling abilities.

In addition to his music career, he has pursued other business ventures, including fashion. He runs two clothing lines, Righteous Kung-Fu and Trilly & Truly, and has designed sneakers for Reebok.

Lupe Fiasco is known for his anti-establishment views, which he has expressed in both interviews and his music. He has been honored by his hometown of Chicago, with November 10 proclaimed as Lupe Fiasco Day. His father, Gregory Jaco, was also honored for his philanthropic and martial arts service to Chicago's citizens.
