She began her career with a small role in the 1981 film "Rich and Famous" and gained recognition for her performance in the CBS soap opera "As the World Turns" from 1982 to 1984.

Her breakthrough came with the 1989 romantic comedy "When Harry Met Sally...", for which she received a Golden Globe nomination.
