MF Doom, born Daniel Dumile on July 13, 1971, in London, England, was a British-American rapper esteemed for his intricate wordplay, distinctive metallic mask, and enigmatic persona. Raised in Long Beach, New York, he embarked on his musical career in 1988 as part of the hip hop trio KMD, adopting the moniker Zev Love X.

The untimely death of his brother and bandmate DJ Subroc in 1993 marked a poignant turning point in his life, leading to a hiatus from the industry. He resurfaced in the late 1990s under the alias MF Doom, donning a metal mask inspired by the Marvel Comics supervillain Doctor Doom. This persona soon became iconic, with Dumile giving minimal public appearances without the mask.

His unique style and underground appeal earned him critical acclaim. His 1999 debut solo album, "Operation: Doomsday", solidified his reputation as a major figure in alternative hip hop. Collaborative highlights include the release of "Madvillainy" in 2004 with producer Madlib under the name Madvillain, considered a seminal work in hip hop.

Daniel Dumile continued to release music under various guises such as Viktor Vaughn and King Geedorah, with notable albums like "Mm.. Food" (2004) and "The Mouse and the Mask" (2005) with Danger Mouse under the moniker Danger Doom.

Following a period abroad in 2010, he was denied reentry to the United States, leading him to settle in London and then Leeds. His wife and other family members survived him when he passed away on October 31, 2020, due to angioedema triggered by a blood pressure medication.
