She is the daughter of actor and nightclub comedian Dick Sterling and dancer Florence Adele "Bookie" Sterling. Growing up, Mindy was shy and took drama classes in high school to overcome her insecurities.
Mindy Sterling began her career in the early 1970s and joined the comedy troupe The Groundlings in Los Angeles, which helped launch her career. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Frau Farbissina in the "Austin Powers" film trilogy, where she played the diminutive and domineering Germanic cohort of Dr. Evil.
