Nancy Walters

Nancy Walters, born Nancy Driver on June 26, 1933, in Mount Plymouth, Florida, was an American model, actress, and minister. She grew up near Mount Plymouth and Zellwood, Florida, and faced significant health challenges early in life due to a bone infection that prevented her from standing until her teenage years.

After spending eight months in the hospital at the age of seven, she overcame her physical limitations and pursued a career in modeling.

Her modeling career included appearances in prestigious magazines such as Glamour, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Mademoiselle. In 1955, she transitioned from modeling to television, working on the NBC game show "The Big Payoff" and later appearing on the CBS show "Strike It Rich" in 1958.

Her acting skills were honed at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, and she made her Broadway debut as a singer in "Ankles Aweigh" in 1955.

In 1960, she signed a film contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, with her first film for the studio being "Bells Are Ringing". She appeared in several movies, including "Blue Hawaii," "The Singing Nun," and "Monster on the Campus."

Over the years, she was a guest star on television shows such as "77 Sunset Strip," "Gunsmoke," "The Monkees," and "Get Smart." Her film and television career ended in 1967.

After her husband, Lt. Paul Warren Payne, was killed in Vietnam, Nancy Walters joined an evangelical group and became an ordained minister. She was living in Las Vegas, Nevada, when she passed away on September 29, 2009, at the age of 76.
