Nicole Mary Kidman was born on June 20, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Australian parents. Her father, Antony Kidman, was a biochemist and clinical psychologist, and her mother, Janelle Ann, was a nursing instructor.

Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Washington, D.C., and then to Sydney, Australia, where Kidman was raised. She developed a passion for acting at a young age and began her career in Australian film and television.

Nicole Kidman made her film debut in the Australian holiday favorite Bush Christmas in 1983. Her breakthrough came with the thriller Dead Calm in 1989, which garnered international attention.

She moved to the United States and gained further recognition with roles in Days of Thunder in 1990, Far and Away in 1992, and To Die For in 1995. Kidman achieved widespread acclaim for her performance in the musical Moulin Rouge! in 2001 and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours in 2002.

She continued to receive critical acclaim for her roles in films such as Cold Mountain in 2003, Rabbit Hole in 2010, Lion in 2016, and Being the Ricardos in 2021.

Nicole Kidman has also appeared in popular films like The Others in 2001, The Golden Compass in 2007, and Aquaman in 2018. In addition to her film career, Kidman has made significant contributions to television. She starred in the HBO series Big Little Lies from 2017 to 2019, earning Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress and Outstanding Limited Series as an executive producer.

She also appeared in the series The Undoing in 2020 and Nine Perfect Strangers in 2021. Nicole Kidman founded the production company Blossom Films in 2010 and has produced several of her projects. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and six Golden Globe Awards.

She was the first Australian actor to receive the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2024. Nicole Kidman has been married twice. She was married to actor Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001, and they adopted two children, Isabella and Connor. In 2006, she married country music singer Keith Urban, and they have two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.

She has been a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF since 1994 and UNIFEM since 2006. She was appointed Companion of the Order of Australia in 2006.
