Parker Posey, born Parker Christian Posey on November 8, 1968, in Baltimore, Maryland, is an American actress known for her extensive work in independent films, earning her the nickname "Queen of the Indies." She grew up in Monroe, Louisiana, and Laurel, Mississippi, where her parents owned a car dealership and worked as a chef, respectively.

Parker Posey has a twin brother named Christopher, and she was raised Catholic. She attended the prestigious State University of New York at Purchase, where she studied drama.

Her career began with a role on the daytime soap opera "As the World Turns," but she gained significant recognition for her performance in Richard Linklater's cult classic "Dazed and Confused" (1993). Throughout the 1990s, she appeared in numerous independent films such as "Party Girl," "The Doom Generation," "Kicking and Screaming," "The Daytrippers," "The House of Yes," and "Clockwatchers," which solidified her reputation as a versatile and talented actress.

She has also worked with director Christopher Guest in several mockumentaries, including "Waiting for Guffman," "Best in Show," "A Mighty Wind," "For Your Consideration," and "Mascots."
