Ray Romano, born Raymond Albert Romano on December 21, 1957, in Queens, New York, is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and writer. He is best known for his role as Raymond "Ray" Barone on the CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, which aired from 1996 to 2005.
His humor is often drawn from his experiences growing up in a middle-class Italian-American family in Queens. He attended Hillcrest High School and briefly studied accounting at Queens College before pursuing a career in comedy.
His career began in the late 1980s when he started performing stand-up comedy in New York clubs. His big break came in 1995 when he appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, which led to the creation of Everybody Loves Raymond.
The show was a massive success and earned Romano three Primetime Emmy Awards. He also voiced the character of Manny the woolly mammoth in the Ice Age film series, which further cemented his popularity.
