Ronald Joseph Suster was a prominent American jurist and politician who served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1981 until 1995 and as a Common Pleas judge in Cuyahoga County from 1995 until 2012. Born on October 31, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was deeply rooted in his community, having attended Oliver Hazard Perry Elementary School, St. Joseph High School, and Western Reserve University for his undergraduate studies.

He went on to obtain his law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1967 while working nights and weekends delivering mail for the U.S. Postal Service.

His career in public service began as an Assistant Law Director for the City of Cleveland, followed by a role as an Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor. In 1980, he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives, where he served with distinction for nearly 15 years.

During his tenure, he was known for his dedication, legal expertise, and high ethical standards, contributing significantly to numerous committees and earning respect from both sides of the political aisle. In 1995, he was appointed by then-Governor George Voinovich to be a judge of the Cuyahoga Court of Common Pleas, a position he held until his retirement in 2012.

In his work as a judge, he was known for his fairness and commitment to justice.

His personal life was marked by his strong family ties and dedication to his loved ones. He married Patricia Hocevar on July 19, 1974, and the couple enjoyed a long and happy marriage.

They had three children: Jennifer Ann, Michael August, and Joseph Ronald, and seven grandchildren: James, Katherine, Robert, Nathan, Eric, Matthew, and Adam. Suster's family played a vital role in his life, and they remained close-knit throughout his career.

Ron Suster passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024, at the age of 81, surrounded by his family.
