Sharon Stone, born Sharon Vonne Stone on March 10, 1958, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, is an American actress known for her roles as femmes fatales and women of mystery. She began her career as a model, appearing in television commercials and print advertisements before making her film debut as an extra in Woody Allen's "Stardust Memories" (1980).

Her first speaking role came in the horror film "Deadly Blessing" (1981). In the 1980s, she appeared in films such as "Irreconcilable Differences" (1984), "King Solomon's Mines" (1985), and "Above the Law" (1988).

Her breakthrough came with her role in Paul Verhoeven's science fiction film "Total Recall" (1990), but she gained international recognition for her role as Catherine Tramell in Verhoeven's erotic thriller "Basic Instinct" (1992), for which she earned her first Golden Globe Award nomination.

Her performance as a trophy wife in Martin Scorsese's crime drama "Casino" (1995) earned her a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
