Shelley Hennig was born on January 2, 1987, in Metairie, Louisiana, to Cathy Distefano Gosset and Glenn H. Hennig Sr. She spent her early years in St. Rose, Louisiana, and later moved to Destrehan, Louisiana.

Her childhood was marked by her passion for dance and her academic excellence, particularly in English classes. Tragically, her older brother Brad died in a drunk-driving accident when Shelley was just 14 years old, which deeply affected her and led her to become an advocate against underage drinking.

Her journey into the spotlight began when she won the Miss Louisiana Teen USA title in 2004, and subsequently, the Miss Teen USA title. This victory earned her a one-year modeling contract with Trump Modeling Management and a scholarship to the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts.

During her reign as Miss Teen USA, she made numerous television guest appearances and public-speaking engagements. She also hosted the Miss Teen USA 2008 pageant.

Her acting career took off in 2007 when she landed the role of Stephanie Johnson on the soap opera "Days of Our Lives," a role she portrayed until 2011 and reprised in 2017.

Her performance earned her two Daytime Emmy Award nominations. She then starred as Diana Meade in the CW's "The Secret Circle" from 2011 to 2012. She gained further recognition for her role as Malia Tate on the MTV series "Teen Wolf" from 2014 to 2017.
