Shelley Morrison, born Rachel Mitrani on October 26, 1936, in the Bronx, New York, was an American actress celebrated for her portrayal of the sharp-tongued maid Rosario Salazar on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace.
Of Sephardic Jewish descent from her father Morris Mitrani, a butcher, and her mother, she studied acting at Los Angeles City College after moving to California, adopting her stage name to evade ethnic typecasting and launching a theater career that included producing the West Coast premiere of Sweet Bird of Youth.
She debuted on screen in the 1962 film The Interns and gained early television traction with guest roles on Adventures in Paradise, The Outer Limits, and a four-episode arc as Linda Little Trees on Laredo in 1968.

She achieved prominence as Sister Sixto, the English-mangling Puerto Rican nun, on The Flying Nun from 1967 to 1970 opposite Sally Field, while accumulating film credits in Divorce American Style (1967), Funny Girl (1968), Mackenna's Gold (1969), Blume in Love (1973), Breezy (1973), Rabbit Test (1978), Max Dugan Returns (1983), and Troop Beverly Hills (1989) as Rosa the Maid.
She appeared in nearly 200 television episodes across shows like Murder, She Wrote, L.A. Law, Home Improvement, Columbo, and General Hospital before landing her signature role as Karen Walker's Salvadoran housekeeper Rosario on Will & Grace from 1999 to 2006, earning two Screen Actors Guild nominations and three ALMA Awards for the character's fierce loyalty and biting wit.
She reprised the role in a 2016 webisode but declined to return for the 2017 revival, marking her retirement after a voice role in the 2012 animated film Foodfight!.
A breast and lung cancer survivor, she advocated for animal welfare and social justice through her performances, receiving the Eternity Award for lifetime achievement at the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival.
