She moved to Colorado at the age of nine and later graduated from Fairview High School and the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in fashion merchandising and business.

Her career began unexpectedly when a photographer mistook her for a model during a fashion shoot in Denver, leading to her signing with a New York modeling agent. Within 18 months, she appeared in over 30 commercial campaigns for brands like Clairol, Sea Breeze, Keri-Lotion, and Maybelline.

Her acting career took off with roles in the black comedy film "Crimewave" (1984) directed by Sam Raimi, and the television movie "Velvet" (1984). She quickly gained recognition with a lead role in the comedy motion picture "Fraternity Vacation" (1985) alongside Tim Robbins and a guest role on the espionage series "Cover Up" (1984).

Her breakthrough came with the role of April Stevens Ewing on the CBS soap opera "Dallas" (1986-1991), where her character was gunned down in the final season during her honeymoon in Paris. This performance earned her the Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Death Scene in 1991.

In 1993, Sheree J. Wilson landed the lead female role in "Hellbound" opposite Chuck Norris, which led to her best-known role as Alexandra "Alex" Cahill-Walker on "Walker, Texas Ranger" (1993-2001).
