Sofia Vergara, born Sofía Margarita Vergara Vergara on July 10, 1972, in Barranquilla, Colombia, is a Colombian-American actress and television personality. She initially studied dentistry at the National University of Colombia but left two semesters short of completing her degree to pursue a career in modeling and show business.

Her life took a dramatic turn when her older brother Rafael was murdered in Colombia in 1998, prompting her to emigrate to the United States and settle in Miami, Florida. Her cousin and adopted sister, Sandra Vergara, is also an actress in the United States.

Her career began to take off when she was discovered by a photographer while walking on a beach in Colombia. She quickly received offers for modeling and television work and co-hosted two television shows for the Spanish-language network Univision in the late 1990s.

Her first English-language film role was in "Chasing Papi" (2003), and she went on to appear in films such as "Four Brothers" (2005), "Meet the Browns" (2008), "Madea Goes to Jail" (2009), "New Year's Eve" (2011), "The Three Stooges" (2012), "Machete Kills" (2013), "Fading Gigolo" (2013), "Chef" (2014), and "Hot Pursuit" (2015). She has also lent her voice to animated films like "Happy Feet Two" (2011), "The Emoji Movie" (2017), and "Despicable Me 4" (2024).

Sofia Vergara is best known for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the ABC sitcom "Modern Family" (2009-2020), for which she received four Golden Globe nominations and five Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Her performance on the show established her as one of the highest-paid actresses in the United States.

Since 2020, she has been a judge on the television talent show "America's Got Talent". In 2024, she starred as the infamous cocaine trafficker Griselda Blanco in the Netflix miniseries "Griselda".

Sofia Vergara is a successful businesswoman and brand ambassador. She designs her own fashion line for Kmart, signed endorsement deals with Pepsi and CoverGirl in 2011, and launched her first fragrance, "Sofia by Sofia Vergara," in 2014. Her personal life includes two marriages. She was first married to Joe Gonzalez from 1991 to 1993, and later married actor Joe Manganiello in 2015, though they divorced in 2024. She has one son, Manolo Gonzalez-Ripoll Vergara, from her first marriage. Vergara currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
