Susan Saint James

Susan Saint James, born Susan Jane Miller on August 14, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, is an American former actress and activist. She grew up in Rockford, Illinois, and attended Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest before enrolling at Connecticut College for Women.

Susan Saint James began her career as a model during her teenage years, which eventually led to her entry into the world of acting. Her first screen role was in the TV movie "Fame Is the Name of the Game" (1966), which launched her career when it became a series two years later. She won an Emmy Award for her role as research assistant Peggy Maxwell in the series "The Name of the Game" (1968-1971).

She is perhaps best known for her roles in the detective series "McMillan & Wife" (1971-1976) and the sitcom "Kate & Allie" (1984-1989). In "McMillan & Wife," she played Sally McMillan, the amateur detective wife of Police Commissioner Stewart MacMillan.

Her performance in the series earned her three Emmy nominations. In "Kate & Allie," she portrayed Kat McArdle, a divorced mother sharing a home with her best friend, played by Jane Curtin. The show ran for five seasons and was well-received by audiences.

Susan retired from acting following the end of "Kate & Allie" in 1989, but she has made occasional guest appearances since then. Her most recent role was in the TV sci-fi mystery comedy series "Upload" (2020-2022).

Susan Saint James has been married three times and has five children, including two daughters and three sons. She is married to Dick Ebersol, a television executive, since 1981.
