Suzanne Pleshette was an American actress born on January 31, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, to Geraldine Kaplan, a dancer and artist, and Eugene Pleshette, a stage manager and later a network executive. She had a Jewish heritage, with her grandparents emigrating from Russia and Austria-Hungary.

Suzanne Pleshette graduated from the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan and briefly attended Syracuse University before transferring to Finch College. She later graduated from the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in Manhattan, where she studied under the renowned acting teacher Sanford Meisner.

She began her career on stage, making her Broadway debut in 1957 in Meyer Levin's play "Compulsion". She quickly transitioned to film and television, gaining attention for her role in Alfred Hitchcock's horror-thriller "The Birds" (1963). Her other notable film roles include "Rome Adventure" (1962), "Support Your Local Gunfighter" (1971), and "Hot Stuff" (1979).

Suzanne Pleshette was also known for her role as Emily Hartley on the CBS sitcom "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972-1978), for which she received two Emmy Award nominations.

Throughout her career, she was nominated for three Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. She won the Laurel Award in 1963 for her role in "The Birds". Her career spanned nearly five decades, and she accumulated over a hundred credits on her resume. She also voiced roles in animated films such as "The Lion King II: Simba's Pride" (1998) and "Spirited Away" (2001).

Suzanne Pleshette was married three times. Her first marriage was to actor Troy Donahue in 1964, which ended in divorce the same year. She then married Tommy Gallagher in 1968, who passed away in 2000. Her final marriage was to actor Tom Poston in 2001, and they remained married until his death in 2007.
