He has an elder sister, Pauline Chalamet, who is also an actress. He attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where he developed his passion for acting.

He began his career as a teenager, appearing in television dramas such as "Homeland" in 2012.
