Tracy Nelson is an American actress born on October 25, 1963, in Santa Monica, California. She comes from a family deeply rooted in the entertainment industry. Her father, Ricky Nelson, was a famous musician and actor, and her mother, Kristin Nelson, was an actress and painter. 

Tracy Nelson is a fourth-generation performer, with her great-grandparents being vaudeville performers. She grew up with three siblings, including her brothers Matthew and Gunnar, who are part of the rock band Nelson. She attended The Buckley School and later graduated from the Westlake School for Girls in Los Angeles. She went on to study Dance and European History at Bard College in New York.

She began her acting career at the young age of four, appearing in the film "Yours, Mine and Ours" alongside Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball. She gained recognition in 1982 for her role as Jennifer DeNuccio in the television series "Square Pegs."
