Xosha Roquemore, born on December 11, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, is an American actress known for her roles in films like "Precious" and the TV series "The Mindy Project."

Named after the Xhosa people of South Africa, she developed an interest in acting during her ninth grade at The Amazing Grace Conservatory. After high school, she moved to New York City and graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.

Her career began in earnest with her role as Jo Ann in the 2009 film "Precious," which earned her critical acclaim. She continued to work steadily in both film and television, appearing in shows like "Nurse Jackie," "10 Things I Hate About You," and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
